Hippie christmas. Code for curbside home decorating supplies. A common Republic of Boulder custom in August/September equaling the burning of police cars, tear gas on the Hill and fertilizing the egg of a freshman. Fall brings out the worst of any generation except the Greatest. For them life revolves around Indian Summer and pork roast, mashed potatoes, carrots and gravy. And Easter. Man, I almost screwed that up.

In anticipation of autumn my fans run 24 hours/day. Monochrome winter is a vague dream. 6% humidity confirms my reasoning to drink often. Don't let dust clog the respiratory system. The brain will certainly die in an extremely dry environment. I moved to Colorado based on the self policing weather which seemed better than sub-artic Chicago. Colorful Colorado. It got hot, and cold, but never lasted. It used to snow lots more, but on a reasonable schedule. The summer nights were cool and the situation was cheap, especially when I lived outside. The water was free. The firewood was out back. Need a bath? Drive up the canyon and find a side pool in the creek... bring your own soap and towel. Head to Tom's Tavern for shuffleboard bowling and Budweisers. Later on walk over to Tom Horn's Bar for a nightcap. Repeat until satisfied. No rules. No fees.

Little did I know things would turn somewhat ratty. Supplies are tight. Refills on your coffee are out of the question. Parking meters everywhere. Rules about noise. The lawn mower exhaust is melting the polar ice. All warranties have expired. Choosing between a democrat and a republican is similar to deciding what computer operating system fits my lifestyle. The internet knows more about me than I know about the internet. The food supply is poisoned. Religion is the 21st century Hitler. Good news, donations are tax deductible.

We Americans have turned into twisted capitalist wimps? It's only a matter of time until someone kicks our ass. It may happen tonight. Tomorrow you'll wake up and the landlord will be knocking on the door, yelling in some foreign language to pay up or move out. Our economy runs on credit. Ski condos and flat screen TVs for everyone. No payments till 2009.

Your TV will not function after February 1st 2009. Your TV will not function after February 1st 2009. Your TV will not function after February 1st 2009. Your TV will not function after February 1st 2009.
If you're tired of reading that turn off the TV. Stone your TV. I read all of that on TV.

And the point of my ranting? Escape the madness. Put the predictable weirdness on hold. Ignore the lies. Two hours of Route 78 West is a miracle drug. Switch on your radio device, sit back and enjoy the Country frequencies. FREE, no kidding.

Uncle Jeff had this pre-vaca show scribbled on notebook paper with a black sharpie. Only Jeff can decipher it. Vacation on the mind is better than a mind caving in and blowing away. Today's audio choices kept me from crumbling. Or is it the heat?

* Hot traks. Jeff is slowly twisting my arm. Eventually I will dig the Fleet Foxes. Just give me a little time and space. Reminds me of a similar trip to the world of Iron & Wine.

Ukulele Loki's politico manifesto is gaining acceptence by truck drivers and accountants within the Route 78 West listening area. It's a large area and should not be neglected.

Thanks to Michael and Chris for the in studio performance. Great harmonies and super sound. You can see them perform as Flatfoot this thursday evening, August 7th, at the Laughing Goat, Boulder Colorado. Ukulele Loki and The Gadabout Orchestra are playing The Walnut Room August 9th at 8:30pm. Check the Denver/Boulder concert scene.
