Notes:

Tonight's show was a reunion. Ukulele Loki rode 28 hours in a flatbed returning from Pennsylvania, while Uncle Jeff drove solo from North Carolina. It was a story gathering trip and each took a turn flashing back. Uncle Jeff heard the distant WHAW am radio show then backtracked 40 miles to meet and talk with the DJs. Ukulele Loki and The Crispy Family were awarded for their performance at the Annual Sideshow Gathering at Inkin' The Valley. Their voices indicated the boys had a good break, but the broadcast flowed toward melancholy tendencies.

The mind gets confused when returning to parental persuasion and childhood territory, so it wasn't clear if Jeff was road tired or sad to be back. That didn't affect the opening selection of eight old timey traks which set the mood for reminiscing. Ukulele Loki had a nasty cold, but that didn't stop him from telling his story with enthusiasm.

As the show went on Loki lost energy and by the six o'clock break Jeff shifted gears. Somewhere on a late at night highway Uncle Jeff had heard a new tune, "You Do Your Thing" by Montgomery Gentry. This trak starts out with a riff lifted straight from Soundgarden followed by sprinkles of Lynyrd Skynyrd and country blue collar lyrics. Uncle Jeff admitted (digitally recorded for future reference) that he likes this song because of the musicanship and threatened to play it again next week. Loki was distraught and Doc had to open the garage door after listening to the dedication. My eyes rolled back and the insane asylum escapees continued the show.

Some political comments flew which got the phone ringing. Jeff jerked on the steering wheel to get the show back on track with Richmond Fontaine's, "Barely Losing," and familiar tunes by Songs:Ohia and the Kings of Leon.

Tonight's background music was from the Honolulu to Hollywood CD, Jazz, Blues & Popular Specialities performed Hawaiian Style on the Old Masters label.

The show's hot trak was Bourbon & Rosewater by Bourbon & Rosewater on Water Lily Acoustics. The sound reminded me of Melissa by the Allman Brothers. Read about Jerry Douglas at Brad's Page of Steel.

Till next week.
