Notes: A meeting of the musical minds happened tonight at the KCVU studio. Doc Martin was in the house adding his crazed laughter and reminiscing old scratchy records with Uncle Jeff and Loki. The previous Saturday the Route 78 West pair had joined Doc at the plush KGNU studio for a warm-up which spurred the cross pollination of the best AM and FM country shows in Colorado.

Porter Wagner's, "Company Comin" led the set and issued a musical welcome to Doc. Not long into the song Doc went rummaging through his black leather medical bag and came up with "I Get Up Early In The Morning" by Rodger Miller which he dedicated to the unknown where-a-bouts of Loki. A nanosecond later Loki appeared and was greeted with Jeff's idle threats to be written up if he could not make the show on time. Loki only muttered that the show was under competent stewardship in his absence... a hideous roar of child-like laughter ensued.

The conversation was saturated with rock-a-belly tales and many listener calls of which one said, "the rooster flew to the top of the barn". Obviously some sort of code he wished to be broadcast over the airwaves. Doc wondered how many eggs it had laid. This was nothing new to Doc Martin who has DJ'd the show Honky Tonk Heros at KGNU for 12 years.

"We were in 5th and then dropped it into reverse with Glen Campbell" said Loki. Jeff defended Glen and the great music debate continued. I relate to " Wichita Lineman", as I have been a lineman for the "county" going on 20 years now.

The Guthrie/Dylan controversy continued. Jeff conceded that Dylan is better at allegory, while Woody excelled with the political stuff.

Jeff and Doc talked of the old western swingy hippie cowboy movement, circa 1970's, and now see the resurgence of Americana. The premise of radio is to play things that are fun and to get people interested. This show did that and more.

Post show was at Tom's Tavern... the only normal place in Boulder.
